SURFACE WINDS:
Today through Wednesday morning: Easterly to southeasterly with a gentle to fresh breeze of 09 to 20 mph and higher gusts.
SYNOPSIS:
A strong tropical wave will account for cloudiness, showers, and thunderstorms across the region. Shower activity is predicted to become moderate to heavy at times across the local area. Residents should remain vigilant as street flooding could become possible.
Furthermore, varying concentrations of Saharan dust will also affect visibility and air quality. Persons with allergies or respiratory illnesses should continue taking precautions.
Long period, northerly swells spreading across the Atlantic is generating above normal sea conditions. Seas peaking up to 8 feet can be expected. As a result, Small Craft and High Surf Advisories are in effect for St. Maarten. Small craft operators and sea bathers should exercise extreme caution.
STATE OF THE SEA: Moderate to rough WAVES/SWELLS: 5 to 8 feet
SPECIAL FEATURE:
Invest 93, located about 150 miles east of the Windward Islands has become less defined overnight. Strong upper-level winds will likely prevent further development over the next few days. Nevertheless, locally heavy rainfall and gusty winds are expected across the region today.
The Meteorological Department of St. Maarten will continue to monitor this system and update the public accordingly.
