GUANA BAY, Sint Maarten – On Friday, November 22, Minister of VROMI the Honorable Christopher Wever along with CEO of NV GEBE Mr. Kenrick Chittick, Distribution Manager, Mr. ing. Patrick Drijvers and Water Department employees of NV GEBE officially opened the valve at the water storage tank in Guana Bay to release the water into the grid. This tank which now holds 1500 cubic meters of water was destroyed by
Hurricane Irma in 2017.
CEO Mr. Kenrick Chittick stated in a small ceremony that, “because of Hurricane Irma NV GEBE’s water grid suffered immensely with the damage to nine tanks.
However, once this tank goes into service, this would alleviate water issues in the Guana Bay, Oyster Pond and surrounding areas.
Patrick Drijvers stated that this was the fifth water storage that has been repaired since Hurricane Irma destroyed the tank in its totality and we are still working on ensuring that all tanks are repaired in order for the island water stability.
Speaking at the ceremony the Honorable Minister of VROMI Mr. Christopher Wever thanked NV GEBE for their dedication, commitment and promise to reduce the water issues on the island.
NV GEBE storage capacity previously stood at a day and a half and with the repair and construction of the other tanks in the near future, the water storage will stand at four days on the island.
