January 18, 2021

Oranjestad — News coming out of Aruba about the Interparliamentary Kingdom Council (IPKO) being held from 9 to 11 January 2018 in Aruba between the parliaments of the Netherlands, Curaçao, Sint Maarten and Aruba indicates that the meetings that started on Tuesday, January 9th, with a plenary meeting in the Ballroom of the Hilton Aruba Caribbean Resort, chaired by the President of Aruba, mr. J.E. Thijsen, are going well.

The main theme of that meeting was sustainability. Presentations were given and, in parts, sessions on the ‘Small Island Developing States’ and the consequences of Hurricane Irma on Sint Maarten. Furthermore, in private sessions, discussions were held about the situation in Venezuela and sustainable penitentiary institutions.

On Wednesday, presentations were given and talked about ‘Sustainable Development Goals’, sustainable energy and further work visits to the WEB (Aruba’s water and electricity company -Ed.) and the Microalgae Pilot Plant were on the program, according the IPKO schedule.

On Thursday, a working visit to the dr. Horacio E. Oduber Hospital is on the program. The interparliamentary consultation ends on Thursday afternoon with the adoption and signing of the decisions list and a joint press conference of the presidents of the four delegations will be held.

The press is invited to attend the closing press conference at the Ballroom of the Hilton Aruba Caribbean Resort on Thursday, January 11th, from 14:00 hours (2pm). The press is asked to please report to the Ballroom no later than 13:45. The press conference will be broadcasted live.
