Today through Wednesday morning: East-northeasterly to southeasterly with a moderate to fresh breeze of 13 to 20 mph and higher gusts up to 30mph.
SYNOPSIS:
With the arrival of Potential Tropical Cyclone Six overnight: cloudy skies, gusty winds, scattered showers, and isolated thunderstorms are expected across the local area. This could lead to heavy showers, localized flooding, and rock falls. Motorists and persons utilizing low-lying areas should be vigilant, as street-flooding is likely.
Seas are expected to peak at 9 feet through the next couple days. As a result, a small craft advisory is now in effect. Small craft operators and sea bathers should exercise caution.
STATE OF THE SEA: Rough WAVES/SWELLS: 6 to 9 feet
SPECIAL FEATURES:
1. At 5am, the center of Potential Tropical Cyclone Six was located about 170 miles SSE of St. Maarten. The center is expected to pass approximately 120 miles south of the island early this afternoon. Some further strengthening is expected, and the system is likely to become a Tropical Storm today. This disturbance has the potential to bring rainfall amounts of 1-2 inches through Wednesday.
Residents of St. Maarten are encouraged to monitor updates from the Meteorological Department closely.
