GREAT BAY, Sint Maarten (DCOMM) – Mathias S. Voges, the very first Minister Plenipotentiary of Sint Maarten after 2010, paid a courtesy visit to the Cabinet of the Minister Plenipotentiary in The Hague.
During his visit to the Cabinet, to congratulate the Honorable Minister Plenipotentiary Rene Violenus on his appointment to the post, Voges made use of the opportunity to present his most recent literary work, the book entitled “Pioneers in the Catholic Education and Healthcare in the Windward Islands 1890 to 2000.”
This was partially translated from his previous book “De Zusters Dominicanessen van Voorschoten 100 jaar op Sint Maarten,” and provides the reader with a historical overview of Education and Heath.
It gives the History of Catholic Education in the Windward Islands (Sint Maarten, St. Eustatius and Saba) along with the healthcare of the islands in the 20th century.
The book also offers a glimpse into the work and the lives of the Dominican Sisters on the islands of Curacao and Aruba.
It showcases the Pioneers in education and health in that era and the vast impact, of their dedication and hard work to the population then, along with many, even to date, who have benefitted and are products of those pioneers all throughout the Dutch Windward Islands.
Minister Violenus, the recipient of the first copy, said to be very humbled and appreciative of the gesture, as he too was a product of the work and dedication of these Dominican Sisters, as he attended the St. Joseph Primary School and a former pupil of the Milton Peters College under the then director Mathias Voges.
The Minister thanked Voges for his kind gesture and in an invited comment encouraged everyone to buy a copy of this historical book which are available at the Van Dorp Bookstore, where it goes on sale as of today Friday, December 13th, 2019.
