PHILIPSBURG, Sint Maarten – The trial of suspended Member of Parliament of the United Democrats, Theo Heyliger will start on Monday, at 2 pm at the Court House in Philipsburg.
Mr. Heyliger, who was arrested at his home in Guana Bay on Tuesday, February 19th by law enforcement officers of the Anti Corruption Taskforce (TBO), is a suspect in the ongoing Larimar investigation.
He is alleged to have been involved with among other illegal activities, bribery and corruption. At the start of the trial today, the Prosecutor is expected to present its argument into the arrest of the suspended MP.
“Mr. Heyliger was detained because he is suspected of having committed several serious crimes over a long period of time. Talking about 10 years and in such situation, pre trial detention is fitting with the accusations we believe we can prove,” stated the team leader of the Anti Corruption Taskforce (TBO), Jeroen Kuipers.
