PHILIPSBURG, Sint Maarten – The trial of suspended Member of Parliament Theo Heyliger got off to a start in the Court House in Philipsburg on Monday. During the trial, which was divided in two segments, the first sitting at 2 pm and again at 4 pm, the Prosecutor outlined the charges brought against the accused.
The suspended Member of Parliament, who was arrested at home on Tuesday, February 19th, by officers attached to the Anti Corruption Taskforce (TBO), is a suspect in the “Larimar” investigation.
He is suspected of allegedly committing several illegal acts including bribery.
According to the OM, Theo Heyliger has accepted a bribe of around 4 million dollars from construction companies. The money came from various companies including Windward Roads and the Caribbean subsidiary company of the Dutch construction group Volker Stevin.
