PHILIPSBURG, Sint Maarten – The police KPSM is asking the public to be aware that the all traffic lights by Prince Bernard Bridge are now functioning again. These light were out of commission since the passing of Hurricane Irma in 2017. They were put back into service Sunday morning at 11.00 am, after a test period of about a week.
The police would like inform the community of one major changes that will go in to effect at the crossing of Prince Bernard Bridge as of today Sunday November 24 2019. In accordance to international rules, the traffic lights will flash orange between 10.00 pm and 06.00 am every evening.
The public should be aware that running a red light is a punishable act in accordance to the traffic ordinance of country St.Maarten. Drives should also be aware that running orange light is also considered an offence on the same level as running a red. But generally, there is more leeway when it comes to driving through an orange signal due to stopping being potentially dangerous.
