St. Peters– The Sint Maarten Youth Parliament will continue its full programming with general meeting for returning and prospective members on Friday September 6, 2019. The meeting will be held at the Rupert I Maynard Youth Community Center from 4:30 – 6:30 pm.
Recruitment of new members is ongoing, and interested youth, age 12 – 24 are invited to visit the Rupert I Maynard Youth Community Center in St. Peters for further information; or email sxmyouthcouncil@hotmail.com. Training for new members will commence during the month of September. A full day seminar for members and prospects will be held during the October mid-term break.
The program focus for 2019-20 is ‘Child Protection and Sustainable Development’. Special focus will be placed on the understanding and application of the UN Sustainable Development Goals, and the importance of child and youth development and protection for sustainable development. The Annual Interscholastic Debate Competition will also take place in October/November. The Youth Parliament will continue to foster greater cooperation with the CTJ and other regional youth parliaments. The Sint Maarten Youth Parliament looks forward to continuing its role as a voice for Sint Maarten’s youth and an agent of positive change and development.
