PHILIPSBURG, St. Maarten – Philipsburg Jubilee Library (PJL) has made a number of enhancements to the general safety of its premises on W.J.A. Nisbeth to ensure the comfort and well-being of both staff and library members.
The library has an automated external defibrillator (AED) on-site. Five staff members will soon become certified in cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) and AED use. This means at all-time at least one member of staff with this life-saving training is on site. This certification is valid for two years.
A professional first aid kit is in place and staffers can help in minor matters.
Several fire distinguishers are distributed throughout the library. The library’s safety manual is nearing completion. This manual covers instructions on how to handle calamities such as fire, hurricane, robbery, and other safety aspects.
On-site security is boosted after 5:00pm. This strengthens the already-in-place security measures that include alarm and surveillance systems.
The managing board of the library continues to be committed to the safety and security of its staff and patrons. Similar measures were also in place at the library’s now closed location on Vogesstraat.
PJL, located in the Adolphus Richardson Building, is open to the public Mondays and Fridays: 9:00 am-5:00 pm, Tuesdays, Wednesdays, and Thursdays: 9:00 am-8:00 pm, and Saturdays 10:00 am-1:00 pm. The library is closed on Sundays.
