A relatively dry and stable air mass accompanied by Saharan dust will limit precipitation during this forecast period. Additionally, varying concentrations of Saharan dust will continue to produce hazy conditions over the next couple of days. Persons with allergies should take the necessary precautions.
Seas are expected to remain slight to moderate through the next few days.
STATE OF THE SEA: Slight to Moderate WAVES/SWELLS: 4 to 5 feet
SPECIAL FEATURE: At 5:00 am today, the center of Tropical Storm Dorian was located about 620 miles southeast of St. Maarten, moving toward the west near 14 mph. On the forecast track, the center of Dorian is expected to be near the Windward Islands late today and tonight and move into the eastern Caribbean Sea on Tuesday. However, the center of Tropical Storm Dorian is projected to pass about 200 miles south of St. Maarten early Wednesday, and thus currently poses no immediate threat.
Maximum sustained winds are near 60 mph (95 km/h) with higher gusts. Some strengthening is forecast during the next few days and Dorian could be near hurricane strength by Tuesday.
The Meteorological Department of St. Maarten will continue to monitor this system and keep the public updated accordingly.
