WILLEMSTAD – In October 2019 a complaint was filed of a possible violation of the National Integrity (Candidate) Ministers Ordinance, or screening legislation. The Public Prosecution Service ordered the National Criminal Investigation Department that same month to conduct a fact-finding investigation in response to this complaint.
That investigation has been completed and has led to a criminal investigation being ordered against now former Minister of Education, Culture, Sports and Science, Mrs. Marilyn Alcala-Wallé. The Public Prosecution Service informed the Governor, the Prime Minister and the person concerned of this.
This is partly in light of the fact that the screening law (Article 16, paragraph 3) stipulates that a minister who is regarded as a suspect in a criminal investigation in this regard must immediately resign.
In the interest of the investigation, no further announcements are currently being made said the public prosecution in an official statement.
