SYNOPSIS:
The outer bands of Tropical Storm Dorian will cause cloudiness, showers and isolated thunderstorms across the local area. Some of these showers could be heavy at times, resulting in street-flooding and or rock slides in vulnerable areas. Residents and users of these areas are advised to exercise caution.
Seas are expected to remain slight to moderate through the next few days, with waves peaking near 5 feet.
STATE OF THE SEA: Moderate WAVES/SWELLS: up to 5 feet
SPECIAL FEATURE: At 5:00 am today, the center of Tropical Storm Dorian was located about 102 miles south southwest of St. Maarten, moving toward the northwest near 13 mph. On the forecast track, the center of Dorian will pass over or near the U.S. and British Virgin Islands and Puerto Rico today.
Maximum sustained winds are near 60 mph (95 km/h) with higher gusts. Some strengthening is expected today and Dorian is forecast to be near hurricane strength when it approaches the Virgin Islands and Puerto Rico.
The center of
Tropical Storm Dorian is expected to be moving away from St. Maarten. However,
showers, thunderstorms and gusty winds are possible from the outer bands of the
system.
The Meteorological Department of St. Maarten will continue to monitor this
system and keep the public updated accordingly.
