MARIGOT, St. Martin – President of the Collectivite Daniel Gibbs has broken his silence over his recent detention in October of this year.
In an address to the nation over the weekend, the president stated that he along with two of his Vice presidents namely Valérie Damaseau and Annick Petrus, has been summoned to the Criminal Court of St. Martin in December for what is perceived to be illegal acts, following the passage of hurricane Irma in 2017.
He, along with his two Vice presidents are being accused for among other things, showing favouritism by awarding contracts to certain individuals following the hurricane.
In his address to the nation, president Gibbs made it emphatically clear that he nor his Vice presidents did nothing wrong, and that there were those persons close to the investigation who have already condemned them.
“I want to be clear with you because words are important, misinformation is dangerous:Neither one of us three, elected members of St. Martin, is accused of personal enrichment, as some like to claim.
The terms used must be precise and the presumption of innocence must prevail as for all the citizens of this country,” president Gibbs said in his message to the nation at the weekend.
