PORT ST. MAARTEN – On June 3rd, 2019, Port St. Maarten celebrated 55-years of cruise. In another important juncture, Port St. Maarten is also celebrating the career advancement of its home-grown cruise industry professional, 31-year old Alexander Gumbs, who will be joining an international cruise company and will be part of their management team.
Port St. Maarten Management would like to extend a heartfelt congratulations to Alexander Gumbs, his family and friends for his dedication and hard work at the Port over the past seven plus years and wishes him much success with his new appointment and future endeavors.

He is a clear example that with discipline and hard work anything is possible,” Port St. Maarten Management said on Monday.
Post-Irma, the primary focus up to the present for Alexander and from the Commercial Department team has been to regain lost business which included communicating with cruise line executives, stakeholders and the local media regarding cruise business development, and maintaining and building these relationships after the major challenges that came after the passing of Irma/Maria in September 2017.
With his drive and spirit in accomplishing the aforementioned, Alexander Gumbs career accelerated after the hurricanes based on his leadership approach and this later lead to his appointment as Business Development & Marketing Manager in 2018 within the Commercial Department.
Alexander who grew up in the district of Belvedere, joined Port St. Maarten in 2012 as a young enthusiastic and dedicated member of the port team holding the position of Business Development Officer within the Commercial Department. From 2012 until 2017, Alexander Gumbs worked with various port stakeholders and the cruise industry in promoting the destination after different regional and international conferences.
Gumbs completed his studies in The Netherlands in 2012 with a Bachelor’s degree in Marketing, with a specialty in Retailing & Franchising. Alexander had his sight set on assisting and pushing the company’s strategic vision and mission full speed ahead along with the Port St. Maarten team.
Alexander also has a Master’s degree in Management/Leadership with a specialty in Project Management; and is a Certified Port Executive (CPE) by Macdonalds Institute.
He was one of the young business professionals awarded in 2015 for his contributions to the tourism industry by the St. Maarten Tourism Bureau.
Alexander Gumbs last day at Port St. Maarten is July 1st.
