POND ISLAND, St. Maarten – The seven political parties to contest the parliamentary elections next year have crossed the first hurdle that will allow them to do so. On Friday, November 22nd, three of the political entities had to accumulate 136 signatures of endorsement paving the way for them to participate in the elections.
At the end of the endorsement process, all three parties successfully garnered the necessary signatures. The political organizations taking part in the signature drive were Party for Progress who received 311 signatures; United People’s Party garnered 205, while the People’s Progressive Alliance was able to get 178 signatures.
It was important for those parties to go through the process, as they have no representation in the current Parliament.
