Great Bay/Marigot – There will be a new route for the eighth annual SXM Trails walkathon scheduled for this Sunday, November 24, starting at 5:30 am, according to Juste Manuel president of the club.
The route for the two hours walk will begging at the Home N Tools Parking lot in Bellevue Marigot, Bellevue road, Causeway Bridge, Airport road, to Beacon Hill, Simpson Bay beach, return to the Causeway Bridge, where participants will engage in short mountain hike through Bellevue, and finish at the Bellevue garden just meters from the departure point where refreshments and breakfast will be served.
The St. Martin hiking group has been on forefront to protect and preserve the various hiking sites on the island. “Hiking has become a passion for the foundation and is becoming an attraction to our residents and visitors on our beautiful island,” said Manuel.
SXM Trails is a non-governmental organization that has been involve in beach clean-up, cleaning the trails passing through the hills of St. Martin/St. Maarten. “We are committed to keeping the existing trails open and accessible to all,” said Manuel.
The hiking club are reminding all those who want to participate in the walkathon can get their tickets and T-shirts at the Howell Center (in front of Super U) streets fair in Marigot this Saturday, November 23, from 9am to 4pm. Admission for the early morning walk is $12 or 10 Euros.
The participants will be in for a special treat where they can win various prices in a raffle and also get free heart and blood pressure testing, after the walk.
“There will be a limited number of tickets to be sold at the departure point Sunday at 5am for the last minutes participants,” concluded Manuel.
