Philipsburg, August 26, 2019 – Minister of Education, Culture, Youth and Sport, the honourable Wycliffe Smith congratulates Sint Maarten-bred basketball player, Deion Bute, who recently secured himself a contract to play the sport professionally in Spain after graduating from college. Bute has committed to playing for Hestia Menorca of the LEB Silver league in Spain. Hestia Menorca is the 2018-2019 LEB Silver league champions.
Minister Smith said, “We wish Deion much success as he joins this team. We are happy to see this young Sint Maartener flourishing in the international sporting arena. Deion, keep flying the Sint Maarten flag high. We are proud of you!” Menorca, one of Spain’s Balearic Islands in the Mediterranean Sea, has the feel of the Caribbean, which added to Bute’s decision to commit, as it reminded him of his Sint Maarten home, according to his interview published in the New Britain Herald.
