WILLEMSTAD – The plan to organize a Kingdom Conference between the four countries of the Kingdom has been postponed. State Secretary for Kingdom Relations Alexandra van Huffelen informed the Dutch House of Representatives about this decision. Consultations between the islands are now scheduled for January 2023.
The purpose of a Kingdom Conference is to discuss a long-term vision for the Kingdom, develop mutual understanding, and to improve cooperation. Van Huffelen writes that due to scheduling reasons, no time has yet been found to come to a schedule with the governments of Curaçao, Aruba, and Sint Maarten.
The State Secretary informs in the letter that the file ‘Data collection on the BES islands’ will be dealt with extra by the Dutch Central Bureau of Statistics (CBS). The House says it wants more insight into the trust on the islands in politics and institutions, but that data is currently lacking.
