SIMPSON BAY, Sint Maarten – The Dominican Republic/St. Maarten route has attracted more air services. This is as the result of the introduction of InterCaribbean Airways to the island.
With 30 persons onboard, the airline safely made its inaugural flight from the Dominican Republic to St. Maarten on Sunday afternoon.
Using an EMB120, Twin Otter, the airline will be operating from the Dominican Republic to St. Maarten on Sunday, Tuesday and Thursday and from St. Maarten to the Dominican Republic on Monday, Wednesday and on Friday.
One of the persons on hand to welcome the flight, crew and passengers at the Princess Juliana International Airport was Caretaker Minister if TEATT, the Honourable Stuart Johnson.
Speaking at the welcoming inaugural ceremony of the airline to St. Maarten, he expounded on the significance of the St. Maarten/Dominican Republic route, and the fact parties stand to benefit.
“The Dominican Republic and St. Maarten has an outstanding connection between our people and our governments,” Minister Johnson said, while referencing to the recently signed air transport agreement between the Dominican Republic, St. Maarten, Curacao and the Kingdom of the Netherlands.
Minister Johnson also congratulated on the inaugural flight to the Princess Juliana International Airport on Sunday.
