PHILIPSBURG, Sint Maaarten – On Monday March 15, 2021, Governor Holiday paid a working visitto the vaccine center at the White and Yellow Cross and to the vaccine center of the Sint Maarten Medical Center. Both locations started administering the second dose of vaccines to persons today.
The White and Yellow Cross and the Sint Maarten Medical Center are two of the four vaccine locations which the government commissioned since February 22, 2021, to provide vaccine to our population. The Sint Maarten Medical Center administers vaccines to staff members of the hospital, of Sint Maarten Laboratory Services, of the Cay Hill Pharmacy, of the Ambulance Service and of the Firefighters. The White and Yellow Cross vaccination location main focus is to provide vaccines to residents of the center, other persons over 60 years and the staff of the center. Governor Holiday received a tour of both facilities where he spoke to nurses at the SMMC and at the White and Yellow Cross who received theirsecond dose of the COVID-19 vaccine.
Governor Holiday said he is particularly pleased to see these more vulnerable groups and at risk groups for infection with the virus receive the vaccination. He was particularly happy to learn that 85% of the residents in the elderly care units of the White and Yellow Cross had already received their vaccination. He thanked Operations Manager, Ms. Bregje Boetekees and the team at the White and Yellow cross for their efforts to vaccinate this more vulnerable and at risk groups for infection.
The Governor was also pleased to hear that 100% of the doctors at the SMMC had already received their first dose of the vaccination.Having heard the nurses, doctors and AMI personnel recount the experiences with treating COVID patients during an earlier visit to the SMMC, Governor Holiday was pleased to see the medical frontliners receive the protection the vaccine provides. He commended Medical Director, Dr. Felix Holiday, Infection Control Practitioner, Ms. Candida Williams, and the team for their continuedefforts in the fight against the virus.
Register and get vaccinated
Governor Holiday emphasized that it is critical for all of us to get vaccinated because it is the way to protect ourselves and our families. This is our way out of the pandemic and towards our socio-economic recovery. Governor Holiday stated that he too hadreceived his vaccine earlier and urged everyone to also register and get vaccinated.
To date a total of some 8209 have registered and together the four vaccination centers, CPS, Medical Center, Belair and White and Yellow Cross, have administered over 3188 vaccines.
