WILLEMSTAD – Five former Prime Ministers of Curaçao and the Netherlands Antilles are concerned about the relationship with the Netherlands. They believe that there is a tense relationship and are concerned about the wording in letters and documents that the Netherlands sends about the situation in Curaçao and the other countries.
The former Prime Ministers are concerned that the current corona crisis is linked “to things that have gone wrong in the past”. The current government of Curaçao has also complained about Dutch “abuse of power”. For example, the government believes that the Netherlands has requirements that have nothing to do with the corona situation when giving corona loans, such as an adjustment of the management of the Central Bank of Curaçao and Sint Maarten.
The former prime ministers met on Monday and discussed their concerns with Governor Lucille George-Wout on Tuesday. The conversation is an initiative of former Prime Minister of the Netherlands Antilles Maria Liberia-Peters, and former Prime Minister Don Martina is also involved.
