ORANJESTAD, Sint Eustatia – On Saturday Nov 9th and Sunday November 10th, the Democratic Party St. Eustatius is holding its annual retreat. Was the retreat in the past for DP party members only, this year on the first day also the general public is invited. The emphasis thereby is on young people who may be interested in entering the political arena. On this day the DP has as keynote speaker invited Mr. Willem Cecilia from Bonaire who will talk about the responsibilities of an island council and executive council member, dualism and what all an aspiring politician needs to know prior to entering the political arena or joining a list. Mr. Cecilia has been the island council registrar of Bonaire for many years and got his doctoral in 2018 in Business Administration. His thesis was a research of certain effects of good governance. Later in the program the importance of local politics will be addressed and what all the Democratic Party stands for.
Sunday program is only for DP members and supporters. On this day we will discuss our party program, campaign strategies, the use of social media, commitments and priorities and the announced elections for October 2020.
The main aim of the retreat is to understand the importance to educate oneself about governing and to be properly prepared when planning to enter politics, joining a list and intent to seek to be elected into public office. The party expects many people to come out
