WILLEMSTAD – The unmanned reconnaissance aircraft MQ-9 Reaper will remain stationed at Hato Airport, Curaçao, until September 30th of this year. This is done to prepare the air force personnel for more demanding tasks and large-scale operations. The personnel will continue working on the operational readiness of the system. This is the second extension.
Favorable weather conditions and the availability of airspace were the reasons for testing the unmanned system on the island. Additionally, the aircraft is already gathering intelligence to support military organizations in the Caribbean region.
The MQ-9 Reaper collects data and information from the air. Thanks to satellite control, the aircraft can be operated worldwide. The system fully aligns with Defense’s desire to operate based on information-driven military operations.
Three out of the four acquired aircraft are stationed in Curaçao.
The current extension will expire this week.
