WILLEMSTAD – From the 13th to the 15th of May Curaçao will host the 50th edition of the General Assembly of ALIDE. More than 350 international ALIDE delegates will meet at the invitation of the host, Korpodeko, in the Curaçao Marriott Beach Resort to discuss this year’s theme: Development banking digitalization opportunities in Latin America and the Caribbean.
The Latin American Association of Development Financing Institutions (ALIDE) is a community of financial institutions that create development banking solutions to accelerate progress in Latin America and the Caribbean. 85 Banks from 22 countries in Latin America and the Caribbean, but also from Europe (Germany, Spain, France, Portugal), Canada, China, India and Russia, plus several regional and multilateral financial organizations with regional and international reach constitute the ALIDE organization. The permanent headquarters of the association is in the city of Lima, Peru. Korpodeko organizes and this year hosts the General Assembly of ALIDE for the second time.
Korpodeko director and also vice-chairman of the ALIDE Board of Directors, Chesron Isidora, is pleased that the meeting is taking place in Curaçao this year. “The celebration of the golden anniversary of ALIDE this year will be a combination of a fascinating network and the vibrant community, diversity and atmosphere that Curaçao has to offer. Among those present are top leaders who encourage the financing of development in Europe, Latin America and the Caribbean within the financial sectors. We will focus on sharing the experiences of top leaders, networking and establishing a vision that will enable our communities to exert more influence in the current challenges facing our local economies”, says Isidora.
The General Assembly is the highest organ of the association. The regular annual meetings and other special meetings form the summit of ALIDE, in which the representatives of the active, associated and cooperating members are brought together. The General Assembly brings prominent executives together to discuss issues related to the committees that influence the development of Latin American and Caribbean countries. And now those prominent executives will come together in Curaçao.
This is an unprecedented and unique opportunity, says Isidora, with which Curaçao can show what a small island can do well. According to Mr. Isidora: “We are a small player within ALIDE, but people within the organization are impressed by Curaçao and Korpodeko because we are one of the smallest members and yet we are able to organize such a conference.” Some of the most influential development banks will be present and will be exposed to the business opportunities on the island.
This also means that in the future we can expect good cooperation from other members to execute our projects. This will be possible because of the respect that we enjoy within the organization.”
