PHILIPSBURG, Sint Maarten – The new members of the Board of Directors of the St Maarten Chamber of Commerce & Industry (COCI) elected by the business community on Friday have a very important role to play in 2020 as the country continues to face a number of challenges post-Irma, President of the COCI Board Benjamin Ortega said on Sunday.
“Firstly, I would like to take the opportunity to congratulate the new board members who were elected on Friday representing Large and Small businesses as they take on the responsibility during this exciting journey.
“Our country continues to face a number of challenges, and they will require the attention of the Chamber Board in 2020. You have to be innovative in your thinking and introduce new ways to engage our business community in 2020.
“I have the opportunity and I see the value of giving back to the community during my tenure, and the same should be said of each and every member that comes thereafter. Each member is expected to put in the time and effort to contribute with ideas, giving guidance based on their own personal business experiences.
“The Chamber has done a tremendous job in the past few years, and the foundations that have been built are there for those to continue to build upon. We have a diverse business sector and further engagement and inclusion in 2020 can only further enhance the relationship between COCI and its registrants.
“In conclusion, I take the opportunity to wish the new board of directors much success and strength as we move forward as a nation and business community in getting ready for 2020. Happy Holidays,” COCI President of the Board Benjamin Ortega said on Sunday.
