WILLEMSTAD, PHILIPSBURG – For the second consecutive year, Centrale Bank van Curaçao en Sint Maarten (CBCS) organizes a “Financial Education Month” in the month of November. During the Financial Education Month, we will zoom in on money matters, focusing especially on building financial resilience within the community. The role and importance of the CBCS to the financial system and
the community at large will also be addressed. CBCS looks forward to the several activities of this Financial Education Month.
In the first week of November, we will pay attention to the importance of creating and following a (household) budget. As part of our aim to stimulate the communities of Curaçao and Sint Maarten to work with a budget, CBCS published editable budget examples in three languages on its website, including animated videos providing step-by-step instructions on how to complete a budget.
The second week of the Financial Education Month will feature two webinars on financial resilience.
The first webinar, on November 12, is organized in cooperation with the University of Curaçao (UoC), and includes presentations by both CBCS and UoC. This webinar focuses on students and individuals interested in financial research. The second webinar, on November 13, is a collaboration between the International Organization of Securities Commissions (IOSCO) and CBCS, and includes presentations by CBCS and other supervisory institutions from the Caribbean region. This webinar is aimed at supervisors and financial experts. Both webinars will include a panel discussion, where participants may ask questions. In the third week of this month, the CBCS will support several activities within the Global Entrepreneurship Week (GEW), since entrepreneurial education is a part of financial education. We will organize a virtual bootcamp for entrepreneurs in Curaçao and Sint Maarten. Furthermore, there will be a debate competition for secondary and tertiary school students, who will debate on the topic of Sustainable Development Goals (SDG).
In the fourth week, CBCS will provide interactive virtual guest lectures to secondary school students.
These guest lectures will explore the topics “Effective Spending and Budgeting” and “Effective Saving and Investing”.
The CBCS’s aim with the aforementioned activities is to make a positive contribution to financial self-sufficiency and financially responsible behavior in the communities of Curaçao and Sint Maarten.
