PHILIPSBURG, Sint Maarten – The management of BP (Panama) Risk Auditors contemplated a new action by the SXM Tax office promoting and securing electronic forwarding of Tax assessments. In the past the Dutch Caribbean Taxes Administration Offices were reluctant to do so, but observing this innovative development we conclude that the SXM Tax Office finally inclined for more transparency and efficiency in the revenue services becoming the first Fiscal Authority to implement E-Tax assessments in regards of E-Delivery. BP’s Execs and Associates applaud the initiative and work transparency of Tax Inspector Mr. Marco Aalbers, who on behalf of the Tax Administration Office opened the window for every tax payer, accounting or consultancy firm in SXM to obtain their tax assessments timely (2 days after issuance) by the introduction of the Virtual Tax Assessment Delivery management. The E- Tax management precedent has been finally confirmed. The management of BP is of the opinion that more innovative steps like these should be considered especially in the Receipt and Delivery of Protest letters, to enhance rapid ruling and avoid standing rows time loss, which will make the SXM Tax Office the first Fiscal Authority in the Dutch Caribbean to make use of 100% Virtual Tax Assessment management becoming the example for other Dutch Caribbean Inspectorates.
The equal right principle is valid and applicable for the SXM tax payers to make use of the opportunity by demanding their tax assessment electronically as the window of opportunity has been widely opened, meaning it is fact that the Tax Department do forward Tax assessment electronically and the request for E-assessments is now fortunately legally sustainable due to the created window by the Inspectorate.
The new condition guarantees transparency in:
1) Elimination of backdating risks of tax assessments
2) Prompt arrival of fiscal information to the tax payer
3) Mitigation of risks related to inadmissibility conditions in the protest phase
4) Elimination of Post Office unnecessary delays with fiscal consequences
5) Elimination of time loss attributed in physical filing of protest letters and Appeals
6) Elimination of wrong address delivery or delivery default by the involved bodies
The Execs and SXM Associates of Benjamin & Parker are awaiting the national implementation of the active E-Tax Assessment system and applaud the unique initiative of the Inspectorate of Taxes, its staff and Supervisory staff for the emerging efficient environment. The coming weeks our Associates will be providing the Tax Office with emails to secure PERMANENT electronic delivery of Tax Assessments of their clients.
