ORANJESTAD – Without financial aid from the Netherlands, the Aruban government cannot guarantee the payment of civil servant salaries in the coming months.
This was announced by the Aruban Minister of Finance Xiomara Maduro.
Aruba is largely dependent on tourism, which is now completely stopped. According to the government, the country is in danger of going bankrupt. That is why attempts are being made to reduce public expenditure, including cuts in salaries of ministers and parliamentarians and civil servants.
The government continues to talk to the unions about these measures.
