GREAT BAY, Sint Maarten – In keeping with the objectives of the governing program and agreements made with strengthening the justice chain 20 additional prison guards and twelve customs officers have been hired at the respective entities.
“Training for these twenty prison guards will begin immediately, and this is a welcome event as the prison has been suffering from a shortage of prison guards for quite some time,” said Minister De Weever. “I am extremely happy to see that 20 local young men and women have been hired to fill the much needed posts at the facility.”
As it relates to the 12 newly hired customs officers, they will be following the Customs Officer training, and will fill the gap of the personnel shortage at the department. Interviews were held earlier this year, and 12 motivated, young dynamic men and women were selected.
“I am elated to have the Customs Department staffed with these young dynamic individuals who will now fill the void within the Customs Department, which is a very important department within our justice ministry,”Minister De Weever.
