SYNOPSIS:
Abundant moisture and instability associated
with a passing tropical wave will produce scattered showers and isolated
thunderstorms along with gusty winds this morning. Some of these showers could
be heavy at times.
Due to already saturated soils from recent rainfall, flooding, rock fall and/or
landslides remain a threat in vulnerable areas. Residents and motorists in
these areas are advised to exercise caution in these areas and/or avoid them
whenever possible.
Moderate marine conditions will prevail for the next few days, with wave heights up to 6 feet. Small craft operators and sea bathers should exercise caution.
STATE OF THE SEA: Moderate
WAVES/SWELLS: 5 to 6 feet
SPECIAL FEATURE: A
tropical wave located in the eastern Atlantic Ocean, several hundred miles east-southeast
of the Eastern Caribbean, continues to produce a broad area of disorganized
showers and thunderstorms. No
significant development of this system is expected for the next couple of days
while it moves westward at about 15mph.
Thereafter, upper-level winds are forecast to gradually become more
conducive, and a tropical depression could form over the weekend. It currently
has a low (0 percent) to medium (40 percent) chance through the next 2 to 5
days of formation.
The Meteorological Department of St. Maarten will continue to monitor this
feature.
OUTLOOK through Friday morning: Partly cloudy to cloudy and breezy with brief showers.
