WILLEMSTAD – Curaçao has taken note of the announcement by the United States of America to intensify its anti-drug operation in the region.
The government has also taken note of various images distributed on social media. It is an already planned anti-drug operation in the Caribbean region. The United States, in conjunction with other partners, including the Kingdom, regularly conducts anti-drug operations in the Caribbean region. The government supports this type of anti-drug operation. Curaçao also benefits from tackling organized crime.
The government is in close contact with both the United States authorities and the Kingdom partners and will continue to monitor developments.
The government wishes to emphasize once again to the people that it will not allow its territory to be used for military actions against Venezuela.
The military presence on Curaçao has no connection with the US anti-drug operation. As mentioned earlier, the military are actively deployed on the coast and border surveillance of Curaçao in relation to the possible influx of undocumented Venezuelan migrants.
At the request of the government, the Curaçao militia also provides assistance to the Police KPC in enforcing the ‘shelter in place’ measure.
