PHILIPSBURG, Sint Maarten – Viren Vinod Kotai was born on Sint Maarten in 1995, right in between the two major hurricanes Luis and Marilyn. He attended the St. Dominic Primary School and then went on to complete the St. Dominic High School at the very young age of 16. His next educational stop was Canada where he completed the associate level in Accounting and Finance at St. Mary’s University in Halifax Canada. Due to his passion for sports, he transferred to Niagara College Canada where he graduated in 2017 with an Advanced Diploma in Sport Admin/MGMT.
From a very young age Viren was involved in sports. While at primary school he played soccer and during his time at St. Dominic High he also became a multi-sport athlete after including basketball to his regiment.
After his studies in Canada, Viren returned to Sint Maarten and worked a sales job which enabled him to save his money and travel and experience the multi-cultural diversity of cities like Miami, Amsterdam, Rio, Sao Paulo and Buenos Aires.
In the early part of 2018 he spent 4 months in Kuwait where he had the opportunity to be part of the sport committee and assisted in the organization and coordination of The Cricket World Cup T-20 Qualifiers for that region. His experience in sports and his advanced diploma in Sport Admin/MGMT served him well in helping to organize such a big tournament. After the event, Viren returned to Sint Maarten with high commendations by the Kuwait Cricket Council.
In December of 2018 Viren landed a job at the airport working for Arrindell Aviation. He started as a customer service representative and quickly moved up to an operations position with Delta. His goal is to further his studies online in the Master of Sport Management Program at the Johan Cruyff Institute.
Viren describes himself as: “I am a new face with a fresh voice and an innovative mind that looks to aid in improving my country, Sint Maarten”. SMCP believes that Viren’s message will resonate with his peers and that he will be able to bring the needed change in Sint Maarten, especially in the field of sports which is his passion. SMCP is proud to present this new face, this fresh voice and innovative mind to the people of Sint Maarten as the #9 candidate on the SMCP slate.
