WILLEMSTAD – Arrested suspect in the murder case of politician and Member of Parliament Helmin Wiels will remain behind bars for a bit longer. Lottery boss Robbie dos Santos has been arrested again as part of the ongoing investigation.
The Public Prosecution Service (OM) has filed a claim to extend his detention and this has been granted by the court.
The extension now applies again for a maximum period of eight days. These days will be used to continue the interrogation of the suspect.
Helmin Wiels was shot on May 5, 2013 on the beach of Marie Pampoen. In this case the shooter and the intermediary person are already serving irrevocable prison sentences. Also, the half-brother of Dos Santos and former finance minister George Jamaloodin was sentenced to 28 years imprisonment for his involvement in this case in August of this year. The Court found that Jamaloodin had been guilty of provoking the murder of Wiels.
The suspicion against Dos Santos is that he ordered the murder. Earlier, a request from his counselor Eldon “Peppie” Sulvaran to suspend or cancel his detention ended in nothing.
Dos Santos’ brother, Member of Parliament Amparo dos Santos, offered a million dollars last week for the golden tip that will lead to solving the murder case.
