WILLEMSTAD – The Curaçao Ministry of Health calls on the population not to eat a Romain lettuce of the brand Salina from California.
According to the American Federal Health Officials, the lettuce may be contaminated with the E. Coli bacterium. In America, dozens of people have already fallen ill. The lettuce brand is also sold in Curaçao.
Symptoms of eating the infected lettuce are abdominal pain, (blood) vomiting and diarrhea.
No common grower or distributor has been identified, but American health officials have been working to trace the source of the lettuce since September, when the first case of illness was reported. The most recent reported illness was on Nov. 10, per a press release from the agency.
