CAY HILL, Sint Maarten – St. Maarten Medical Center (SMMC) will be hosting free Clinical Breast Examinations this Saturday, October 26th in support of Breast Cancer Awareness month and has once again partnered with the Positive Foundation and the Elektralytes Foundation for this event.
The event will take place in SMMC’s Outpatient department from 10:00 am – 4:00 pm and will feature presentations by Radiologist Dr. Sander Bodewitz, Chemotherapy nurse, Jasmien Cijntje and a representative from the Still Beautiful Foundation. These presentations will start at 11:00 am and the topics covered will include: how to support a loved one dealing with Breast Cancer, Radiology’s role in the treatment of Breast Cancer and developments in the industry.
The event also features a kiddie corner where children can enjoy child-friendly activities while visitors are examined by SMMC specialists and ER doctors. Students of the American University of the Caribbean (AUC) will be assisting in the screenings.
“SMMC Open house gives our community the opportunity to get a free clinical breast examination from several medical practitioners housed under one roof. Since 2011, the Positive and Elektralytes Foundations have partnered with SMMC to provide 100 free mammograms to individuals who need a mammogram but do not have the means to pay for one. We encourage women 18 years and older to come out on Saturday October 26 from 10 am – 2pm to the SMMC. Historically, this is largest free screening opportunity. Participants can expect to also receive free breast cancer awareness literature “ said Shelly Alphonso, President of the Positive Foundation.
