US $1,318 Raised by Learning Unlimited

PHILIPSBURG, Sint Maarten – The Learning Unlimited Student Council and Griffins presented US $1,318 to the Rotary Club of Sint Maarten as a result of their fundraising efforts to support the Bahamas.  A presentation was made to the Rotary Club of Sint Maarten at its regular meeting on September 25, 2019 at the Rotary Clubhouse.  Collectively, all the Rotary Clubs in St. Maarten/St. Martin, Anguilla and St. Barth’s have raised a little more than US $19,000 to support the Bahamas.

Learning Unlimited Student Council President, Theodore Wilson and Griffin President, Stephanie Hodge explained that as they learned more about the devastation, which occurred on the islands of the Bahamas after the passing of hurricane Dorian, the Learning Unlimited Student Government and the Learning Unlimited Griffins decided to assist the Bahamians.

To accomplish this goal, the students proposed to have a dress-down day were students could come to school in clothes other than their required uniform on September 20th, 2019. They requested a minimum of $2.00 from anyone who wanted to be involved in this effort. Many students donated more than the minimum and one very generous kindergartener donated $100. They plan to hold a second dress-down day fundraiser in the coming months. The Dean of Academics, Head of Middle and High School and Interact Faculty Advisor Mr. Danny Fleming was also present along with the Learning Unlimited Interact Board of Directors, Student Government officers and Griffin representatives Dhruv Sagre, Mihir Mirchandani, Drake Daboul, Devesh Mirpuri, Klaire Hall, Chelsea Norley and Kimberly Mendez.

President of the Rotary Club of Sint Maarten, Sherrylle Horsford thanked all the members of the Learning Unlimited community for their donation and explained these funds will be forwarded directly to the Rotary Clubs of the Bahamas Disaster Relief Fund, to assist with the immediate needs of Bahamians, including food, water, shelter, medical attention, etc.  The Rotary Clubs of St. Maarten/St. Martin, St. Barth’s and Anguilla would like to express their sincere gratitude to the general public, who have supported their various projects and initiatives locally. We are now calling on the people in our region to stand with Rotary, one of the world’s most trusted charity organizations, and support us in our humanitarian efforts.
