SCHIPHOL – Customs officials made a significant seizure last Friday, intercepting a whopping 85 kilograms of cocaine on board an aircraft at Schiphol Airport. The plane in question was a TUI fly Boeing 787, which had recently arrived from Curaçao. The street value of the confiscated cocaine is estimated to be worth millions of euros.
Although the discovery was made last week on the 14th, the official announcement was made today. The confiscated drugs have been handed over to the CargoHarc team, a collaboration between the Royal Netherlands Marechaussee, Fiscal Information and Investigation Service (FIOD), and Customs. The drugs have already been destroyed.
Flights originating from Curaçao are known to carry an increased risk of drug smuggling, prompting thorough inspections. In the past, TUI had plans to operate flights from Eindhoven to the island. However, due to the necessity of the so-called 100 percent screening, this initiative could not proceed at that time.
