SURFACE WINDS:
Today: Easterly with a gentle to fresh breeze of 09 to 16 miles per hour.
Tonight through Friday morning: Northeast to east with a gentle to fresh breeze of 10 to 18 miles per hour and possible higher gusts.
SYNOPSIS:
A relatively drier atmosphere will prevail and limit precipitation across the local area today. However, another tropical wave may cause brief isolated showers during the latter part of this forecast period. Caution is still advised due to saturated soils from recent rainfall, where rock fall and/or landslides remain possible in vulnerable areas.
Moderate marine conditions will prevail for the next few days, with wave heights up to 6 feet. Small craft operators and sea bathers should exercise caution.
STATE OF THE SEA: Slight to moderate
WAVES/SWELLS: 4 to 6 feet
SPECIAL FEATURE:
A tropical wave located in the eastern Atlantic Ocean, several hundred
miles east-southeast of the Eastern Caribbean, continues to produce a
large area of disorganized showers and thunderstorms. Gradual
development is possible during the next couple of days while the system
moves west-northwestward at about 15 mph across the central tropical
Atlantic Ocean. Conditions are forecast to become more conducive for
development over the weekend, and a tropical depression is likely to
form by early next week several hundred miles east of the Lesser
Antilles.
It currently has a high (70 percent) chance of formation through the next 5 days.
The Meteorological Department of St. Maarten will continue to monitor this feature.
OUTLOOK through Saturday morning: Partly cloudy to cloudy and breezy with isolated showers.
