WILLEMSTAD – The Public Prosecution Service appeals the decision in the case of the 600 kilos of drug robbery from police station Rio Canario.
The case revolves around five suspects, who have been acquitted of the robbery of 600 kilos of drugs in the night of 13 to 14 October 2018. Three other suspects were acquitted earlier.
The robbery is said to have been committed under the leadership of former police officer Mariens Mariano. He was sentenced to 16 years in prison, but the proof that Mariano himself would have been involved was too thin, according to the court.
According to the Court of First Instance, the incriminating statements made by a number of anonymous threatened witnesses were not supported by other evidence.
The General Court sentenced the former police officer to six years in prison for his involvement in importing 340 kilograms of cocaine, dealing in cocaine and misuse of his service weapon.
