PHILIPSBURG, Sint Maarten – As part of UNICEF Netherlands’ hurricane preparedness campaign, the children’s rights organization, will be organizing a video workshop and competition geared towards youth ages 8 – 18. Competition prizes include ‘surprise-kits’ valued at $300 for various ages.
The workshop, on June 15, will touch on UNICEF Netherlands’ work, hurricane preparedness information and how to create short videos with a smartphone. The videos that participants will create during the workshop will focus on preparing and involving the youth in hurricane preparedness.
“We will be creating the videos in a fun manner and with lots of teamwork. There is limited space, so sign up soon!” says Laura Bijnsdorp, who will be hosting the workshops on behalf of UNICEF Netherlands, alongside Mareeka Dookie – both work with UNICEF Netherlands and have video-production and teaching experience.
All videos created during the workshop will be entered into UNICEF
Netherlands’ video competition. The deadline for the video competition is on June 30. Videos must be no longer than 3 minutes and should focus on hurricane preparedness. You can get creative and make a music video, skit, informational presentation and so forth.
The completed videos will be used to encourage others to get “ready, set and
prepared!” on various communication channels of UNICEF Netherlands. The three winners will be announced on July 1 in the age groups of 8 – 11, 11 – 14 and 15 – 18.
Maximum 15 persons (ages 8 – 18) can sign up for the FREE workshop on
June 15. Please register at mdookie@unicef.nl to secure your spot.
