WILLEMSTAD – The infection with measles on the cruise ship Freewinds, which lies in the harbor of Curaçao, seems limited to one person. That is what epidemiologist Izzy Gerstenbluth said. “The chance of further contamination is very small.”
However, 277 people must remain on board until the blood test is completed. According to the epidemiologist, this must be the case on Tuesday or Wednesday. Then everyone can leave the ship.
A female crew member of the Scientology movement’s cruise ship was diagnosed with measles last Monday. From that moment on the ship remained in quarantine with three hundred people on the island of Saint Lucia. On Saturday it docked again in the port of Curaçao, the fixed base of the cruise ship.
All passengers and crew members were questioned there. 41 people were able to hand over a vaccination certificate and could disembark. The rest must stay. But according to Gerstenbluth, all regulations have been followed and no other people seem to be infected.
The government on Curaçao has announced that anyone (both children and adults) who want a new vaccination can easily get one on the island.
