SURFACE WINDS:
Today through Sunday morning: East-southeasterly with a light to moderate breeze of 07 to 15 mph.
SYNOPSIS:
East-southeasterly winds will persist for the next few days as the Atlantic high-pressure system shifts slightly south. Saharan dust transported in this wind flow will produce hazy conditions over the islands while also reducing the chances of shower activity.
Seas will remain slight to moderate during the next few days.
STATE OF THE SEA: Slight to moderate WAVES/SWELLS: 4 to 6 feet
SPECIAL FEATURES: Based on model outputs, very fine particles of volcanic ash from the La Soufriere volcano have likely already reached the local area and will persist for the next several days. This volcanic ash is mixed with low concentrations of Saharan dust, further limiting visibility and affecting sensitive persons. Therefore, persons with allergies and/or respiratory illnesses should take the necessary precautions.
The Meteorological Department of St. Maarten will continue to monitor the situation and update the public accordingly.
OUTLOOK through Monday morning: Fair to partly cloudy with slight haze and a brief shower possible.
