Philipsburg – The late Hurbert Benjamin Hughes passed away on Friday, May 7, surrounded by his family. His political career began in 1976, where he was first elected to the House of Assembly and served as Chief Minister of Anguilla on three occasions. Hughes was a great friend of the St. Maarten people.
“On behalf of the Council of Minister, I extend my deepest condolences to the government, the people of Anguilla, the friends and family of the former Chief Minister of Anguilla, Mr. Hurbert Hughes. Anguilla and the rest of the Caribbean have lost a dedicated public servant whose legacy will be cherished throughout the region for generations to come,” stated Prime Minister Jacobs.
