WILLEMSTAD – Former Prime Minister of Curaçao who is now behind bars for corruption is at it again. He does not want to lose his parliamentary seat. For this reason, he has filed an appeal against the cancellation of his membership in Parliament. This was confirmed by the President of Parliament William Millerson.
Until there is an irrevocable verdict in this case, Schotte cannot be replaced. This means that the replacement – either by Juniël Carolina or by Charetti Eduarda – about which no consensus was reached within the party, has been temporarily put on hold. With this Schotte bought himself some time from prison Sentro di Detenshon i Korekshon Kòrsou (SDKK).
According to the National Ordinance on the cancellation of membership in parliament, the MP who ceases to be a member after an irrevocable conviction has two weeks to appeal to the Joint Court of Justice. This is not an appeal against the conviction, but only against the canceled membership.
