Sint Eustatius – Over two thousand eligible voters on St. Eustatius will have the opportunity to cast their vote for a candidate of their choice, when the Island Council election is held in Statia on Wednesday, October 21st. Some Three political parties will be vying for the allotted five seats in the Island Council of the Public Entity of St. Eustatius.
Those political organizations are the United People’s Coalition (UPC) of Elvin Henriquez, the St. Eustatius Democratic Party (DP) under the leadership of Aldelka Spanner and the Progressive Labor Party (PLP) spearheaded by Rechelline Leerdam. Voters will be able to cast their ballots at two polling stations. They are the Ernest van Putten Youth Centre or the Lion’s Den in Concordia and the Earl Merkman Sports Hall on Sandy Road.
The polling stations will at 7 am and close at 9 pm. The election is being held in the midst of the Covid 19 virus, and according to unit manager at the Census Office, Henni Taal, they are taking all precautionary measures in an effort to safeguard the electorates.
