PHILIPSBURG, Sint Maarten – On Thursday, November 19th, Claudius Buncamper declared himself an Independent Member of Parliament, effectively breaking ties with the USP. Whilst making the announcement on the floor of Parliament Thursday morning, he noted that it became clear to him that the party had opted to move forward with its operational and ideological restructuring and that he was not willing to stand in the way of a process that he cannot support.
“A key factor in my decision was the party’s focus to readjust its platform, focus towards independence for Sint Maarten, sooner rather than later,” he said, adding that the country is presently facing too many pressing issues and priorities would not allow him to devote energy to the noble cause of independence for the country.
