14 Troups In 2008 Senior Carnival Parade

PHILIPSBURG - The Grand 2008 Carnival Parade was a success on Tuesday. A total of 14 troupes took part in this years 2008 parade. The parade was also  graced by a number of visiting troupes.

King Beau Beau wins again

PHILIPSBURG - The calypso eliminations held on Sunday evening in the festival village was another success in the carnival 2008 line up. On Sunday 11 calypsonians perform including the former reigning King, King Dow and his son Dow Jr.

Survivors Win All In Jr. Parade

PHILIPSBURG - The St. Maarten Carnival Development Foundation (CDF), expressed satisfaction with the Junior Parade which took place on Sunday. A total of eight troups took part in the festivals first parade. Last year only four troups took part.

King Beau beau, King Of Kings

PHILIPSBURG - The King of the Kings competition on Friday evening, played out to a packed Festival Village on St. Maarten. The results of the competition which was announced after 2AM, saw King Stunky coming in third with 315 points. He sang the song entitled, Action Time.

SMSBF Has New President

PHILIPSBURG - The St.Maarten Sports Federation held its elections on Wednesday night. During Wednesday proceedings, director of the St.Maarten Judo Association, Arthweight Bell unanimously defeated president of the SMSBF, James Busby by 12 votes to 3, to win the position of president. Edsel Hooker, who retained his position as general Secretary and the treasurer slot went to Theo Lui.

Other board members are: Reginald Eugenio, Patrick Drijvers, Patricia Gumbs, Minerva Pinto, Marcus Livenstone and Martijn Schaap.

the immediate past president is James Busby, who will stay on the board as an advisor.

The meeting, which was held at the Sports Federation's office was well attended by the various sports organizations affiliated with the federation.
