Drug interception by Zr. Ms. Groningen

WILLEMSTAD, Curacao - Zr.Ms. Groningen last week in collaboration with the United States Coast Guard intercepted 125 kilos of hard drugs.

The interception took place on the coast of Panama in international waters.

This is for Zr.Ms. Groningen the third interception since she departed on June 5 to the Caribbean.

During a patrol flight of the NH90 helicopter aboard Zr.Ms. Groningen was a fast sailing boat with three crew observed.

The contact feed direction the coast of Panama and had a number of packages on board. On the basis of this information was the fast interceptor boat (Frisc) of Zr.Ms. Groningen driven behind the boat.

An American maritime patrol aircraft (of the United States Customs Service) assisted in locating the vessel. After Frisc had brought the vessel to stop showed that no packages were on board.

Then the NH90 helicopter, together with the second Frisc of Zr.Ms. Groningen started a search along the route that had taken the boat. Eventually they found five packages of hard drugs with a total weight of 125 kilos.
