PHILIPSBURG, St. Maarten - RAW Promotions Foundation, the entity charged with organizing the 2017 NAGICO Calypso competition, met with the
23 calypsonians who signed up to participate in the 2017 NAGICO Calypso competition on Friday evening, October 14th, in the A. C. Wathey Legislative hall,
where the Calypsonians were informed of the developments of the competition.
PHILIPSBURG, St. Maarten - The Women’s Island Network (WIN), in collaboration with the Positive Foundation, hosted its first annual Passionately Pink Interactive Evening. The sold out event, was a 50/50 breast cancer information session and WIN fundraiser. Present were dynamic speakers, Dr. Henk Wassenaar, oncologist at SMMC, Dr. Claudia Arregoytia, research fellow at AUC and breast cancer survivor, Ms. Marcellina Loblack, who all did a fantastic job in bringing breast cancer awareness information to the attendees.
This WIN event was held at Divi Beach Resort, a main sponsor of the event, in the Great Bay Room. The Women’s Island Network (WIN), which is sponsored by USM’s School of Continuing Education and Life Long Learning (SCELL), would like to thank all the sponsors and donors who made this event the success it turned out to be.
GRAND CASE, St. Maarten - Over people of all ages came to celebrate migratory birds and learn about the amazing journeys that bring them to St. Martin. It was a record crowd for the Migratory Birds Festival, organized by Les Fruits de Mer. Attendees were treated to a variety of presentations and activities related to migratory birds and the habitats that sustain them.
"The story of bird migration is fascinating, but we also see it as a gateway to learning about the entire ecosystem that surrounds them," explained Les Fruits de Mer co-founder Mark Yokoyama. "Activities like the Portable Pond Discovery Station and Crabitat highlight the less noticeable critters that sustain many of our birds, and the Club Gaïac seedling giveaway gets people personally involved in restoring native trees."
